Lolo Jones is a track and field and bobsled athlete born here in Des Moines, Iowa. A graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, she is an 11-time All-American at LSU, a World Champion, and a three-time Olympian who competed in both the Summer and Winter Games.
Lolo Jones has redefined what it means to be a modern dual-sport athlete. While many know her for the literal hurdles she leaped on the track, her true legacy is built on the metaphorical hurdles she has conquered off of it. From the summer track to the winter ice, and from reality television to fierce athlete advocacy, Lolo has spent decades shattering boundaries.
Lolo Jones is one of an elite group of just ten Americans to ever compete in both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
Track and Field: At LSU in college, she was an 11-time All-American and a 3-time NCAA champion. Professionally, she became a dominant force, winning indoor world titles in 2008 and 2010 for the 60-meter hurdles. She represented Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.
The Bobsled: In 2012, Lolo famously shifted gears into winter sports. She altered her physical frame to gain muscle mass and became a top-ranked brakewoman for the U.S. bobsled team, competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Lolo translated her athletic fame into a highly successful mainstream media career. She has put her competitive spirit on display across multiple major television formats:
- Navigated the complex social gameplay of CBS’s Celebrity Big Brother 2, placing 3rd.
- Battled on MTV's physical competition franchise The Challenge (appearing on Champs vs. Pros and Double Agents).
- Danced on ABC's Dancing with the Stars.
- The Book: She published her memoir, Over It: How to Face Life's Hurdles with Grit, Hustle, and Grace, sharing how her difficult childhood, including bouts of homelessness, shaped her worldview.
- The Podcast: She hosts the raw and aptly named podcast Gold Medal Loser, where she interviews guests about overcoming failure and finding peace when life doesn't go according to plan.
