Who Is The Greatest Blocker In Iowa State Men's Basketball History?

A block (or blocked shot) in basketball occurs when a defender legally deflects or stops a field goal attempt from an offensive player, preventing a score. To be legal, the defender must touch the ball while it is traveling upward or at its apex, without making illegal contact with the shooter.

So, who has had the most blocks for Iowa State Men's Basketball over the years?  Who is the greatest blocker in program history? Let's take a look.

As you can see by looking at the top 5 in each category, there are 2 names that pop out the most.  Kelvin Cato and Jared Homan.  Cato was only with the Cyclones for 2 years and Homan spent his whole 4 year career with Iowa State.  Cato helped the Cyclones reach new heights in program history under Tim Floyd that led to a 1997 Sweet Sixteen run in the NCAA tournament.  In Homan's 4 years with the Cyclones, they didn't have a lot of success.  Although his senior season he did help them get to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the second round.  Kelvin Cato holds the Iowa State men's basketball record for the most blocked shots in a single game, recording 10 blocks against West Virginia on Feb. 2, 1996. He also holds the second-highest mark with 9 blocks, achieved against Nebraska on Jan. 13, 1996.

So who is the greatest blocker in Iowa State school history?  I have to give the nod to Kelvin Cato.  If Cato would of played 4 total years with the Cyclones he would of crushed Homan's career mark of blocked shots.  But, the question now is, will we ever see any new players for Iowa State get their name on one of these lists?  Time will tell!
