Coin Snatching Off The Elbow: How Many Can You Do?

The "coin snatching from elbow to hand" is a popular physical challenge or trick that relies on Newton's first law of motion (inertia). The goal is to balance a stack of coins on your elbow and quickly catch them in the same hand before they hit the ground. The record for most coins caught doing this is 328.  But some coins did fall during that.  So, it's the most coins you can get in your hand at the end.

How to Perform the Trick:

- Position your arm: Stand up straight and bend your arm at the elbow, pointing the elbow away from your body so your forearm is roughly parallel to the ground. Your hand should rest near your shoulder or ear.

- Balance the coins: Place a single coin or a small stack of coins on the flat part of your elbow.

- Execute the snatch: In one swift motion, move your hand forward and downward quickly to the spot where your elbow was and cup your hand to catch the falling coins.

Tips for Success:

- Practice: It takes practice to time the movement correctly and determine how many coins you can comfortably catch.

- Start small: Begin with a single coin and work your way up to a stack.

- Speed is key: The faster you move your arm, the more time you have to get your hand into position.

I remember doing this trick when I was younger.  I tried to get as many coins on my elbow as possible and fling my arm down fast to catch them.  The most I ever got was 56, and that seemed like a ton.  Did the world record holder who got 328 coins have huge arms and hands or what?  Give it a try. See what you can do!
