Running Continuously for 80 Hours Without Sleep - That Is Crazy!

The longest distance ever run non-stop is 350 miles by American ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes in 2005. He achieved this feat in 80 hours and 44 minutes, running continuously without sleeping. He ran through Northern California, changing shoes only while moving, often eating and, at times, running while asleep during this three-day, three-night journey.

Can you imagine running for 80 hours straight?  That is crazy.  I can barely imagine running for 10 minutes straight!  To me this just blows my mind.  Is this guy really human?  Due to a rare physiological advantage where his body efficiently clears lactic acid, preventing the severe muscle fatigue and cramping that typically stop runners. His muscles do not accumulate lactate, allowing him to maintain a steady, high-intensity, and nearly endless pace.

So here's the question. Even if I had this physiological advantage, would I run this much?  The honest answer is, probably no.  To achieve this and have the mental power to do this, is just awesome.  I mean I did walk on my treadmill for 20 minutes this morning.  Does that count?

It makes you wonder how many other super human achievements could be done because the way our bodies are made up.  Can individuals out there do things they never thought they were capable of doing because they have never tried?  Dean was just an ordinary guy, who started running, and never stopped.  What can you do?  What can I do?  I think it's time to see what we are all capable of!  See what you can do today.
