So after watching Playdate, starring Alan Ritchson the Reacher star, the other day and not liking it, I was happy to find a film with him in it I enjoyed. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare first came out in April 2024 and I just now watched it. To be honest I didn't hear about it when it first came out. But after watching the preview and seeing who was in it, I had to give it a watch.
The movie stars Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson and Eiza González and lasts a bit over 2 hours. For the most part the movie moves along really fast and has some great action sequences. I think one of the cool things about the movie is it's based on a true story. Specifically the British WWII operation known as Operation Postmaster. While the film is based on real events and includes real people like Gus March-Phillips and Ian Fleming, it is highly fictionalized and embellished for entertainment. The movie takes liberties with historical details, but the core mission to raid a German-sympathizing island and steal ships is based on reality.
An interesting part of the movie is the group of people the British government use to get this done is a non-traditional group of misfits. Definitely find this movie and give it a watch. One note I have to mention is Ritchson's character is Swedish. His accent isn't the best to be honest. But he is in his normal role of kicking butt!
Out of 10 Popcorn Kernels, I give it a 6.5.
