The flat cap is something you don't see too often here in the States. The Irish flat cap has roots dating back to the 14th century but gained widespread popularity due to a 1571 English parliamentary mandate requiring men to wear wool caps on Sundays to support the wool trade. Originally a practical, durable staple for rural farmers and workers, it evolved into a durable, iconic symbol of Irish culture and fashion, often crafted from Donegal tweed.
I think what made me first like flat caps is because of my Irish heritage. I have always been a fan of looking at the history in Ireland and seeing what my ancestors wore. So of course I saw a lot of old pictures in Ireland of men with flat caps. So I had to have one. It's funny you don't really see them that often anymore. Although the recent TV show Peaky Blinders and celebrities like David Beckham have popularized the style, transitioning it from, functional, gear to modern high fashion.
Another thing I like about the flat cap is now that I'm in my 40's, it actually works better for me. See the video below to find out how. So if you are looking for a different look and like hats, give it a try.
