An Australian Jaffle is a spaghetti sandwich, that will make you rethink eating spaghetti normal again. It's a classic, simple comfort food: spaghetti (often with a tomato-based sauce) and cheese, sealed in buttered bread and toasted in a special Jaffle iron (or panini press) until golden and crispy, creating a hot, sealed pocket of pasta and cheese.
So to make it easy for my fellow Americans, it's basically a grilled cheese with spaghetti added on to it. But you got to use a Jaffle Iron or a Panini Press which you can order on Amazon for $17.99 to make it. Now, I have had tons of grilled cheese sandwiches in my life, but I've never had one with spaghetti on it, so I was intrigued. Now my daughter always takes her bread, when she has with spaghetti and makes the noodles into a sandwich. So the idea of it wasn't something totally new to me and I had to try it.
I purchased the Panini Press and cooked up the spaghetti noodles. I heated up some tomato pasta sauce, cooked up some hamburger and put it all together. I buttered the outside of the bread that I would put in the press and got out some mozzarella cheese. Then it was just a matter of putting it all together. Butter the outside of the bread, put it down, throw the cheese on there, then the hamburger/noodles/sauce mixture and lastly put on the top piece of bread. Close up your panini machine and let it cook 3 minutes. Then just like that, it's ready to try.
Now, let me start by saying I'm a huge sandwich guy. So the idea of eating spaghetti on a sandwich already sounded good to me. Then it was time to taste it. It was a great combination of a grilled cheese and spaghetti. I ate the whole sandwich and enjoyed it. I will definitely be making this again! Thanks Australia!
