Back in 1981, when I was 3 years old, a TV show came out called The Greatest American Hero. It ran 3 seasons and ended in 1983. Looking back on the show now, the special effects and other things to do with a superhero are pretty bad to be quite honest. But the the idea and story of the show is something I really think needs redone. Let's take a look and see what that show was about.
The Greatest American Hero was about a mild-mannered high school teacher, Ralph Hinkley, who receives a super-powered red suit from aliens but loses the instruction manual, forcing him to learn its chaotic abilities by trial and error to fight crime alongside a by-the-book FBI agent, Bill Maxwell, and his attorney girlfriend, Pam Davidson. The show blended superhero action with comedy, focusing on Ralph's struggles with his unpredictable powers and the humor derived from his ineptitude as a superhero, all while trying to do good.
Now, I know I was young, but I remember watching reruns of the episodes as I got a little bit older too. I found the show good. So why haven't we had a newer version come out? Well, fans have been asking for it over the years, but nothing came from it. Surprising, because networks like to take any superhero and make a show out of it nowadays. So please, someone take Ralph Hinkley and bring his character to the big screen soon. It could be a wonderful superhero comedy. Better than Shazam!
