Climbing A 101 Story Building Without Ropes, Harnesses or Protective Equipment: Alex Honnold

Last night on Netflix they had a live show called Skyscraper Live.  The show was live at the time and showed climber Alex Honnold, free soloing a 101 story building.  Now if you don't know free soloing is, unlike free climbing, which uses ropes for safety if a fall occurs, free soloing uses no gear for protection.  So Alex climbed 1,667 feet, which took 90 minutes, without any safety.  To me that is crazy.  I mean I get a bit scared when I climb up to the roof of my house.

To be honest, while watching it actually bothered me a bit to see him so high.  I mean he was hot, sweaty and the side of the building was obviously dirty so he was covered in dust and grime.  The whole time I was watching I was thinking to myself what if he falls?  Do they just stop the show really quick?  That would be horrible.  I mean they had people on every floor as he climbed up watching him.  Mark Rober, a popular YouTuber, was doing some commentary on one of the floors.  Plus his wife was watching him as he climbed up from the inside.  There was one point where he wrapped his legs around part of the building and leaned back with no hands on the building.  I was like what are you thinking!

Well, the good news is he made it.  But at the very end he stands up straight on top of the building looking around.  I would be afraid I was going to blow off!  So the 40 year old can get back to his wife and 2 young kids and hopefully not try something so crazy again. Check out the highlights below if you didn't watch.
