Card Collecting: Reliving My Childhood Hobby

When I was a kid I was a huge sports card collector.  Mostly baseball, but I spent a lot of time and money buying cards in my youth.  Unfortunately, cards from the 80's and 90's aren't worth a lot of money these days.  But cards have come a long ways nowadays.  Signed cards, special sets and graded cards have really remade the hobby.  Plus, other cards such as Pokémon and other non sport cards are really popular now.

I will say I started watching Sports Card Investor on YouTube a lot lately.  It's amazing on there what some cards are going for now and what people are willing to pay for them.  It seems like normal looking folks are dropping $500-$1500 on cards.  Now, I don't have that kind of money and I don't want to deal with cards going up and down in value.  So instead I am just looking for certain things I like.  For instance, I have over 60 Iowa State Players autographed cards (in Iowa State uniforms) because Iowa State is my favorite College.  So I am always on the hunt for Iowa State autographs.  For players that don't have cards I have purchased 8x10 signed photos too.

But just recently I started getting into purchasing PSA graded cards and getting into other things I love like the show Survivor, WWF from my youth, The Office and other shows I loved from my youth such as Firefly.  I won't spend a ton of money.  For instance I just bought the signed Boston Rob (from Survivor) PSA card for $18.00 on Ebay.  And the classic Macho Man PSA card for $20.  So I try not to spend more than $20 on a card.  It's amazing you can find some decent values out there if you have patience.  Or maybe people just don't like what I like!

So whether you are collecting to get some value or just collecting for fun like me, collecting cards is a fun hobby.  And if you have a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA card that you don't want, I will gladly take.
