When I was 9 years old, the Macho Man Randy Savage became the WWF champion for the first time. Now at the time I was a huge fan of wrestling. Yes, it was fake, and I knew that, but it was still the coolest thing in the world to me. In fact I even went a few months later to see the Macho Man defend his title against Andre the Giant at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa (see the card below). It was awesome.
Now prior to this moment, I had been a huge WWF fan for years. I remember I had a Pillow Fighter. The Pillow Fighter was basically a pillow, with arms and legs that looked like a boxing character. The Pillow Fighter became the character I pretended to be another wrestler. Hey, I had no brothers at the time and my sisters were too old to try and beat up. So, I would use my couch as a wresting ring. I would lay the Pillow Fighter down on the couch and, like the Macho Man, I would jump from the side of the couch and deliver the flying elbow. I would then hook the tiny leg and give the 3 count out loud. I was such a dork! LOL.
But, looking back on it now, this was so much fun. This was my joy. I didn't have a phone to stare at or constant video games to play. I had my pillow fighter and wrestling.
So one other thing I need to mention. When I was writing this blog and looking for the video on Youtube I decided to do a search for Pillow Fighter too. What I found surprised me. Apparently, there is a Pillow Fighting in real life?! Now, while this sounds crazy there is actually many matches showcasing this on Youtube. View below. It's amazing the things that are out there, and the fact that a big crowd is watching!
