Try Something New This Year During Christmas: Weird Traditions From Around The World

Many places around the world have unusual customs you could incorporate into your own celebration to make it a bit more fun. Because Santa and his reindeer every year gets a little old. Check out these weird traditions that just might make your Christmas this year a little more fun!

Throw Pudding at the Ceiling (Slovakia): At Christmas Eve dinner, the head of the household throws a spoonful of loksa (a traditional pudding/dough dish) onto the ceiling. The more that sticks, the more luck the family will have in the coming year.

Beat a "Pooping Log" (Catalonia, Spain): Get a small log, paint a face on it, and "feed" it small treats for a few weeks leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve, beat the log with a stick until it "poops" out the goodies (which you've hidden beforehand). You could even include a caganer (a small defecating figurine) in your nativity scene.

Roller Skate to Your Destination (Caracas, Venezuela): Gather your family and friends and roller skate to a Christmas event or even just around the neighborhood on Christmas morning.

Dine on Fermented Birds or Whale Blubber (Greenland): Instead of a traditional turkey or ham, serve Mattak (raw whale skin with blubber) or Kiviak (little auks—small birds—wrapped in a seal skin, buried, and fermented for several months).

Hide All Your Brooms (Norway): Witches and evil spirits are thought to emerge on Christmas Eve. Hide all your brooms to prevent them from flying around and causing mischief.

Decorate Your Tree with Spiders and Webs (Ukraine): According to folklore, this tradition brings good luck and prosperity. Use artificial spiders and webs instead of tinsel and baubles.

So there you have it. Which one will you try? Maybe stay away from trying to roller skate if you live in the Midwest!
