Walk The Dinosaur - Do You Remember?

First released in 1987 in the U.K., Walk Like A Dinosaur, by Was (Not Was), eventually hit the States. The single reached #7 on the U.S. Billboard charts in 1989. It was one of the songs that was catchy and would stick in your head.  Of course being 10 years old at the time when I first heard the song, it got stuck in my head pretty easy.  Back then, you had to listen to radio or cassettes/CDs in your car and they played this song on the radio a lot!  Since it was easy to memorize, it got stuck in my brain for good.  To this day, every so often I will sing this song out of nowhere.

I wonder if other people have this weird song thing like I have.  I can just be doing my thing and a random song pops up from the past in my head.  Then I sing or whistle it.  Am I crazy? Probably, or maybe others suffer from this?  It makes life interesting, that's for sure. But, let's get back to the song.

The song Walk Like a Dinosaur has a dual meaning. It' a lighthearted party anthem driven by its catchy video and a deeper, darker message about the potential for nuclear annihilation, drawing a parallel between the extinction of the dinosaurs and human self-destruction. The song uses the carefree, party-like atmosphere to deliver a protest against nuclear weapons.  Now as a 10 year old hearing this song, I thought nothing about nuclear annihilation, but it's always interesting to hear the real meaning behind some of these songs, that get stuck in our heads. So your message for the day:

Open the door, get on the floor

Everybody walk the dinosaur
