My kids are 14 and 16 now. But back in their younger years I watched many, many kids programs with them on television. It seemed like I watched more kids shows than adult programs on TV. It actually got to the point that I enjoyed many of the shows my kids watched. But, what do you do when your kids outgrow a certain show, but you want to keep watching and see what happens? Do you watch a kids show on your own? Here's my experience with 2 different shows I watched with my kiddos:
1. Henry Danger - This show first came out on Nickelodeon back in 2014, but I didn't start watching it until around 2018 when my son was 7. There was 5 seasons (121 episodes) of the show and it finally ended in 2020. Henry Danger is about 13-year-old Henry Hart who secretly becomes the sidekick "Kid Danger" to superhero Captain Man, balancing normal teen life, school, and saving the town of Swellview from villains, all while keeping his superhero identity hidden from his family and best friends, Charlotte and Jasper. The show follows his comedic adventures and growth as a crime fighter, blending sitcom elements with action. My son absolutely loved this show and it seemed like we watched it all the time. I'm sure we saw many of the same episodes over the years we watched more than once. And to be honest, I enjoyed the show. Then in that last season of the show my son had finally outgrown it. He was all of a sudden too cool to watch. But I wanted to see how it ended. So I actually watched a kids show without him until it ended that year.
2. Liv and Maddie - One of my daughter's favorite shows growing up was this one. It first came out in 2013 and ran until 2017. Liv and Maddie was a Disney Channel sitcom about identical twin sisters, Liv and Maddie Rooney, who are complete opposites living in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, after Liv returns home from filming a hit Hollywood show, forcing the girly actress and the tomboy basketball star to navigate high school and family life together with their quirky parents and brothers, showcasing their unbreakable bond despite their contrasting personalities and interests. My daughter was all about this show. 4 seasons of this show ran and by the 4th season my daughter was too cool to watch. But her dad was not cool. And once again, I wanted to see what would happen. So of course, I watched it on my own. Luckily in this case my son at least watched it with me even though it was his sister's favorite show originally.
So, yes I was an adult watching kid shows. What does that say about me? I'm a big kid? Yes. What it doesn't say about me? I'm not gonna lie and say I didn't watch them. So here's the question for you. If you have kids, and they are past the ages of some of those shows, did you ever watch them?
