The Chaos of the Bins: My First Trip to an Amazon Liquidation Store

I am convinced that Amazon bin stores are the closest thing we have to a modern day treasure hunt, mixed with a healthy dose of pure, unadulterated chaos. If you’ve never been to one, picture a massive warehouse filled with giant, wood framed tables. Inside those tables? Thousands of random, unorganized Amazon returns, overstocks, and mystery packages just waiting for someone to dig them out. The catch is the pricing model. It drops every day of the week. The day I finally decided to cross this off my bucket list, everything in the store was flat out $4.00. Here is exactly what went down during my first ever dive into the bins, and the bizarre things I encountered along the way. Entering the Jungle Walking in, the vibe is immediately intense. There are no neat shelves. There are no labels. It’s just row after row of giant wooden troughs piled high with plastic mailers, dented cardboard boxes, and loose plastic items. People are digging through them like they’re panning for gold, tossin...

Regulators, Mount Up! Why I Can't Wait for Young Guns 3: Dead or Alive

If there is one cinematic era that completely defined my youth, it’s the late '80s and early '90s western revival. And at the absolute peak of that mountain stood Young Guns and Young Guns II . Being born in 1978, I was at the absolute perfect age to have these movies permanently seared into my pop culture DNA. Scurrying to the Theater: My History with the Regulators When the first Young Guns hit theaters in 1988, I was just a 10 year old kid. Watching Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Charlie Sheen ride across the screen as John Tunstall’s "Regulators" was mind blowing. They weren't the old, stoic cowboys my parents watched. They were the "Brat Pack" on horseback, full of swagger, chaos, and unforgettable one liners. By the time Young Guns II blasted into theaters in 1990, I was a 12 year old fully immersed in the lore of Billy the Kid. The sequel took everything I loved about the first movie, made it a bit darker, and gave u...

The Sweetest Taste of Summer: Why Dairy Queen Ice Cream Helmets Were Peak Childhood

There is an unwritten law of childhood that everyone from the '80s and '90s knows to be true: ice cream tastes exactly 20% better when you eat it out of a miniature plastic baseball helmet. If you grew up during the golden era of Dairy Queen summer promotions, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Long before the Blizzard completely took over the menu, the ultimate warm weather luxury was ordering a soft serve sundae and watching the employee slide it into a tiny, upside down MLB plastic cap. More Than Just a Bowl Getting your hands on one of those helmets wasn't just about satisfying a sugar craving, it was an absolute event. You'd stand at the counter, peer over the glass, and desperately scan the rows of team logos hoping they had the exact one you wanted. For me, it was always the Chicago Cubs. I spent years of my childhood yearning for that perfect little royal blue helmet with the iconic red and white "C" on the front. Every single trip to DQ was a ...

Throwback Tracks: Why J.Lo’s “Let’s Get Loud” Was My Ultimate 21st-Year Anthem

We all have that one song. The track that acts like an instant double shot of espresso, completely shifting your headspace the second the intro hits. For me, that track will always be " Let’s Get Loud " by Jennifer Lopez. Whenever I hear that explosive horn section, I am immediately transported back to being 21 years old. It was the age of endless energy, piling into my buddy's beat up car, and blasting music on the way to the bars. "Let's Get Loud" wasn't just a song on our pre game playlist, it was the playlist to get me pumped up. It possessed this unique, high octane magic that could instantly pump me up, shake off a long week of work or classes, and make me feel entirely invincible and ready to hit the town. A Look Back to 1999 Released in June 1999 on J.Lo's iconic debut studio album, On the 6, the song holds a fascinating history. It was originally co-written by the legendary Gloria Estefan. Estefan initially intended to record it herself but ...

The Street Food of My Dreams (And Why My Girlfriend Banned the Stick)

If you have never experienced a Puerto Rican Cheese Dog, I need you to pause whatever you are doing and look into your soul. You are missing out on absolute, deep fried perfection. Before meeting my girlfriend, my idea of a cheese dog was a sad, lukewarm hot dog with a rubbery slice of American cheese slapped on top in a soggy bun. Boy, was I blind. Puerto Rican cheese dogs, often affectionately treated as a legendary street food staple, are completely next level. Why They Are Absolutely Elite Imagine a juicy hot dog snuggled tightly against a generous slice of cheese, completely wrapped in a blanket of dough, and deep fried until it’s a beautifully crisp, flaky, golden package. When you bite into it, the crunch of the outer shell gives way to a rush of savory hot dog and an absolute waterfall of gooey, melted cheese. It is salty, crispy, savory, and comforting all at once. My girlfriend made them for us the other day, and I think I ate one before I even remembered to breathe. How to M...

DIY Workshops At Your Local Home Depot or Lowe's for Kids

Both The Home Depot and Lowe's offer excellent, completely free monthly DIY workshops for children, designed to build hands-on skills. Each program provides the necessary materials, a kid-sized apron, and commemorative pins or badges upon completion. My kids are older now, but they loved these when they were little, and they were great as a parent to have a free activity for the kids to do on weekends. Plus they teach your kids to be creative! Here are the details: Lowe's Kids Club Schedule: Monthly in-store sessions (usually the third week of the month). Age Range: Aimed at children ages 5–12. Features: Features themed builds with brand tie-ins (such as PAW Patrol) and highly creative wooden or plastic builds. Kids work toward a Builder Recognition program, collecting physical and digital badges and even earning a free tool bag. Registration: Advance registration is required as part of the free MyLowe's Rewards Kids Club. Find upcoming projects and sign up ...

Sarcasm, Sex, and St. Olaf: Why The Golden Girls Was My Masterclass

Picture it: Saturday nights, circa 1988. Long before streaming algorithms decided what we should watch, my adolescent self was glued to the TV screen on NBC, eagerly waiting for the familiar, comforting opening chords of Andrew Gold's "Thank You for Being a Friend". On paper, The Golden Girls was a show I had no business obsessing over. I was a kid, and they were four women over fifty navigating their golden years in a pastel soaked Miami home. Yet, week after week, Dorothy’s razor sharp sarcasm, Blanche’s unapologetic confidence, Rose’s sweet St. Olaf absurdity, and Sophia’s unfiltered Sicilian wisdom became my sanctuary. Decades later, I realize I wasn’t just watching a groundbreaking sitcom, I was sitting in a masterclass on how to live. Here are the four deepest life lessons I learned by watching The Golden Girls back in the day: 1. Midnights and Simple Carbs Solve Most Things If there is one image permanently burned into the minds of fans, it’s the four ladies huddl...
