5 Days On A Toilet: Could You Do It?

5 Days On A Toilet? Could You Do it

In July 2019, 48-year-old bus driver Jimmy De Frenne decided to push the absolute limits of human endurance.  He set up a toilet right in the middle of a bustling bar called Filip’s Place in Ostend, Belgium.  His original goal was a staggering 165 hours, nearly a full week.

Sitting on a toilet for days isn't just boring; it is logistically complicated. To pull this off under the watchful eye of local witnesses, De Frenne had to follow strict guidelines:

  • The Plumbing Twist: The toilet he sat on was completely unplumbed.
  • The Break System: He was granted a 5-minute break every hour.
  • The Sleep Strategy: He could accumulate those 5-minute blocks over several hours to sneak in a quick, upright nap. Over the entire five-day stretch, he managed only about three hours of sleep.
  • The Ultimate Irony: Because his stunt toilet wasn't connected to pipes, he actually had to use his hard-earned break time to leave the bar's main room and go use a real bathroom.

He was forced to wave the white flag after nearly five full days when severe leg pain and extreme sleep deprivation caught up with him.  Jimmy De Frenne successfully beat the unofficial previous record of 100 hours, cementing his name in the annals of weird history. But unless you are looking to secure a permanent relationship with a proctologist, it is best to leave your phone outside the bathroom door and keep your visits quick.

I don't think I could do this and for that matter, don't want to do this.  Granted, I can spend 10 minutes relaxing and taking care of business in the bathroom at times, but I can't imagine spending more time in there than that.  Sometimes, after 10 minutes my legs fall asleep.  So Jimmy, you can have this title.  This is not a record I will ever try to beat.  Would you?
