May 1st is Battlestar Galactica Day: That's Frakkin' Right

Yes, May 4th might belong to Star Wars, but May 1st is now Battlestar Galactica Day!  Why is that you ask?  Well, starting on May 1st after many years of having no where to view Battlestar Galactica, you can now stream it on Paramount Plus.  If you don't all ready have the a subscription to Paramount Plus, you can also stream it for free on Pluto TV starting the same day. Frak Yeah!  If you aren't familiar with one of the best sci-fi series of all-time, let me tell you a little bit about it.

The reimagined Battlestar Galactica (2003–2009) is widely regarded as one of the most influential television dramas of its time, often compared to heavyweights like The Sopranos or The Wire for its gritty, complex storytelling.  Developed by Ronald D. Moore (a veteran of Star Trek), the show abandoned the lighthearted "space opera" feel of the 1978 original in favor of a realistic, documentary-style military drama.

So what is the premise of the show?  Humanity’s "Twelve Colonies" are destroyed in a surprise nuclear strike by the Cylons, a machine race created by humans that rebelled 40 years earlier.  A "ragtag" fleet of roughly 50,000 survivors flees into deep space, protected by the aging, non-networked Battlestar Galactica—the only warship to survive because its obsolete systems were immune to Cylon cyber-warfare.  In a major twist, some Cylons now look, bleed, and feel like humans, having infiltrated the fleet as sleeper agents.

Led by Edward James Olmos (Commander William Adama) and Mary McDonnell (President Laura Roslin), the cast also famously featured Katee Sackhoff as a volatile Starbuck and James Callis as the brilliant but self-serving Gaius Baltar.

While the show may be a little old now, the story is wonderful and you will get sucked into the story pretty quickly.  If you are a fan of sci-fi and have never seen this, then you definitely got to watch.  I'm gonna re-watch, now that it's on Paramount Plus!

Out of 10 Popcorn Kernels, I give it a 9.  Make the time to watch!
