On May 21, the galaxy honors the anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, where fans first met the wise little green master named Yoda, on the swampy world of Dagobah. To embrace the day, fans across the world speak in "Yodish"—reversing sentence structures by placing the object and subject at the end of a sentence. Instead of saying, "It is a good day," one might say, "A good day, it is".
To fully participate in the festivities:
- Reword your speech: Place verbs before subjects, and add trademark phrases like "Hmm, yes" or "Do or do not, there is no try".
- Host a marathon: Gather friends and watch Star Wars films or series to honor the master.
- Dress the part: Wear a favorite Star Wars t-shirt, or go all out with a full robe and lightsaber.
- “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” — The Empire Strikes Back
- “You must unlearn what you have learned.” — The Empire Strikes Back
- “Wars not make one great.” — The Empire Strikes Back
- “The greatest teacher, failure is.” — The Last Jedi
- “A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.” — The Empire Strikes Back
- “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” — The Phantom Menace
- “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” — Revenge of the Sith
- “Judge me by my size, do you?” — The Empire Strikes Back
- “When nine hundred years old you reach, look as good, you will not.” — Return of the Jedi
On top of all this The Mandalorian and Grogu hits movie theaters on May 22nd! So it's a big weekend for Star Wars fans. It is the first theatrical Star Wars film in seven years, releasing in theaters. Directed by Jon Favreau, the action-adventure feature transitions the beloved Disney+ streaming series onto the big screen. So for Star Wars fans, like myself, it should be a fun weekend!
