Every now and then, a terrible idea sneaks into your brain and refuses to leave. Mine was simple.
What if I went through a drive-thru wearing a Darth Vader mask? Not because it was Halloween. Not because I lost a bet. Just because the Force apparently wanted a cheeseburger.
So there I was, sitting in my car with one of the most recognizable villains in movie history staring back at me from the rearview mirror. I put on the helmet, took a dramatic mechanical breath, and immediately realized one important fact:
Driving while dressed as the Dark Lord of the Sith is not exactly peak visibility. I kept safety first and only wore the mask while stopped at the ordering speaker and pickup window. No fast food is worth becoming tomorrow's traffic report.
I pulled up to the speaker.
"Welcome to Chick-fil-A! Can I get a name for your order?"
This was my moment.
In my deepest, most dramatic voice, I replied,
"I find your lack of hamburgers... disturbing."
Silence.
For about three glorious seconds, I wondered if I had completely confused the employee. Then I heard laughter. Not just one person. Several people. Victory!!
I ordered my meal while trying to stay in character. Unfortunately, my Darth Vader voice slowly transformed into what sounded like Batman with seasonal allergies. By the time I reached the pickup window, the entire kitchen seemed to know. The employee opened the window, looked directly at me, froze for a second, and then burst out laughing. Behind them, another employee leaned around the corner just to see if the rumors were true.
Yep. Darth Vader wanted fast food. Someone yelled from the back, "Lord Vader! Your order is ready!" Another chimed in, "May the fries be with you." I almost broke character right there.
Instead, I slowly reached for my wallet like I was using the Force. Spoiler alert: The Force still doesn't work on credit card readers. I had to tap my card like everyone else.
As I drove away, I couldn't stop laughing. Somewhere inside that restaurant, I like to imagine the employees were saying, "You'll never believe who came through the drive-thru today." Not a celebrity. Not a sports star. Just Darth Vader craving lunch.
Life gets busy, stressful, and way too serious sometimes. That's why I love little moments like this. A goofy costume, a terrible impression, and five minutes of harmless fun were enough to make a bunch of strangers laugh, including me.
If you ever decide to do something silly like this, remember one rule: make someone's day better, not harder. Be polite, keep the line moving, and don't hold up people who are just trying to get their food. A quick laugh is worth a lot more than an elaborate prank.
Would I do it again? Absolutely!
Next time, though, I'm bringing a lightsaber. Not to threaten anyone. Just in case the ice cream machine has joined the Rebel Alliance.
