Until a few weeks ago I had never tried the Honey Roasted BBQ sauce at Chick-fil-A. And I have eaten their a ton over the last 5 years. The Honey Roasted BBQ packet is designed as a sandwich spread rather than a nugget dipping sauce. While fan favorites like Polynesian or the signature Chick-fil-A Sauce sit comfortably inside wide plastic tubs engineered for a perfect nugget dunk, the cult classic Honey Roasted BBQ remains famously isolated in its sleek tear-open pouch.
The primary reason for the unique packaging comes down to intended use. Tubs are made for dipping sides like waffle fries and chicken nuggets. Pouches, on the other hand, are meant for spreading directly onto sandwiches. But, have you ever dipped your fries or nuggets in the Honey Roasted BBQ? If you answered no to this, you need to give this a try right away!
Many fans frequently request that Chick-fil-A transition the flavor to a standard plastic tub or include it in their retail 8-ounce bottle lineup. However, Chick-fil-A claims, maintaining its original form keeps production highly streamlined for its specific menu purpose. They say it also preserves the unique, slightly lower calorie formula that sets its distinct smoky profile apart from the standard dipping choices.
But, at the restaurant you are only getting .9 ounces of Honey Roasted BBQ sauce as compared to the 1 ounce of traditional sauces in the tub. So it's gonna take opening up a lot of those little packages to dip your food in. So that is the problem Chick-fil-A. Can we do something to help the customers out?! In the mean time, you can use the recipe below and try making your own if you need more!
The Ultimate Copycat Chick-fil-A Honey BBQ Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup smoky or sweet barbecue sauce (like Sweet Baby Ray's)
- 1/4 cup honey3 tablespoons Dijon mustard1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Optional splash: 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
Instructions:
Combine all of your measured ingredients together in a small mixing bowl. Whisk vigorously until the mixture is completely smooth and the honey integrates perfectly into the creamy mayonnaise base. Refrigerate the sauce in an airtight container for at least 30 minutes before serving. This chilling time lets the smoky elements bloom and deepens the final flavor profile. Enjoy!
The next time you are at Chick-fil-A, try the Honey Roasted BBQ sauce. Then, if it's a Sunday and Chick-fil-A is closed, make your own sauce at home and then try making Chick-fil-A Bites at home too!
